Support in Disaster affected Area and distribution of Essential Food Material (Year: 2010-11)

In the year 2010-11, with The Himalaya Trust, SELFHELP distributed provisions to 650 families in Haripur village in Haridwar (Uttarakhand). Most of these families were landless. An alternative therapy course was conducted at DVC Colony where the local people attended and learned healing and yoga. A craft program was also conducted.  In the same a flood in Buggawala village had destroyed many houses. The Society provided tin sheets for roof making to 16 families. During the same program, the Society provided gifts (tin box, sewing machine) to a family who were marrying the daughter. The Society provided Rs. 5000 (rupees five thousand only) to an orphaned girl, Ms Babita from Basoi village (Jaajal). Her house had been damaged by the floods.

Solar Lights in Disaster affected areas (Year: 2011-12)

In 2011-12, with the support of Vitthal Solar, Haridwar, the Society provided solar lanterns to disaster-affected families in the region. The lanterns were provided mostly to families that were living in the forests with their livestock. In the year 2013-14, volunteers from the society formed a firm to market the lanterns at business activity. The firm is still active in Uttarkashi by the name of Vikalp, providing direct and indirect benefits to 4 men of the firm. With resources from Vitthal Solar, The Himalaya Trust and the SELFHELP Society, 31 families were given solar lanterns. In Uttarkashi, one family was given a solar cooker from demonstration and promotion among the community.
